Building My New PC

So, I ordered all of this from PC Case Gear last week, which I’m highly recommending if you are ordering from Australia, and I’ve just finished putting it together. It’s my first real custom build. If you’re wondering why a few components are missing; I already have a decent graphics card, power supply and my 120GB solid state is still on its way!

As stated in my earlier post, the cooler is massive! I got myself a really large motherboard so I can fit all my cards in it without issues (I use sound card, wifi/bluetooth card and graphics card) yet the cooler still makes it look tiny!

I was also worried that the Corsair Vengeance RAM (being the tallest ram that there is) wouldn’t fit under the cooler, but it does, however the side heat sinks are entirely over the two of the RAM sticks, but not touching.

I love the case, it’s a lot thicker than I thought it would be, but I’m glad it is, otherwise it wouldn’t fit the cooler. My only concern is the roof is entirely transparent, obviously for cooling purposes, but if small amount of liquid were to land on top of the case there would be a good chance something inside would be ruined. I think I’ve failed cable management, this is supposed to be one of the easiest cases to manage cables and drives, but it still looks like a total mess inside. It’s surprisingly quiet for the amount of fans though.

I also decided to get a sound card for the first time it’s only a cheapy, but hopefully it will make a difference.

Topped it off with purple cold cathodes to match my keyboard backlight. A suggestion to anyone that buys these; make sure they come with velcro mounting (this is the one I bought) otherwise your only easy option for installation would be to permanently install them with adhesive or screws or something as equally as damaging to your precious case.

My only regret is ordering the i7 2700K at the same time as the new generation of i7s came out. Still a great CPU and a hell of an upgrade from Core 2 Duo!

Shown in the boxes of the first image:
: Intel i7 2700K (3.5GHz)
: CoolerMaster V8
: 4x4GB Corsair Vengence (16GB)
: Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H-WB
: CoolerMaster RC-942-KKN1 HAF X 942
: Corsair Force Series 3 120GB SSD
: ASUS Xonar DG
Light: Purple Cold Cathodes

Oh and I haven’t weighed it yet but a quick calculation would tell me it weights about 19kg. Full specifications of my PC are on the About Me page.

Time for some Skyrim! :D

  • looks like you had fun making this, you got the same cathodes as me except mine are bright green. I got half way though my build before I realised my nibblers went missing so I couldn’t finish building. Your cable management is pretty special ^_^ ooh.. and you got a soundcard – are you going to start producing music?

    • I used to dabble in music production, but I doubt I’ll ever try to master it again. :p

Since you reminded me of this, I uploaded a song I made in FL Studio a few years ago, it’s on the Downloads page

      • That song you uploaded sounds similar to something Eris would make – But you never finished it? what gives?

  • How much did it cost all up?

    • 1.3k AUD for all in the top picture plus a 120GB SSD. If I didn’t already have a graphics card and power supply it would of surely been 2k+. D:
